Simplex introduces new technology to protect commercial buildings

The VIGILANT® MX 1 fire detection and alarm system is the latest addition to Simplex Fire Products’ sophisticated and comprehensive MX TECHNOLOGY® range.

Suitable for small to medium size systems across an extensive range of fire protection applications, the VIGILANT® MX 1 offers an innovative one or two loop analogue addressable fire indicator panel and incorporates the latest fire detection technology from around the world.

Building owners and managers can also be assured that the system has been designed for compliance with Australian Standards AS 7240.2 and features an integral Fire Brigade Panel to AS 4428.3.

The VIGILANT® MX 1 uses MX VIRTUAL™ detectors, which provide rapid response to fire conditions while minimising the occurrence of nuisance alarms. This is achieved as a result of MX SMARTSENSE™ and FASTLOGIC™ detection algorithms, MX TECHNOLOGY® heat enhanced smoke detection algorithms and carbon monoxide fire detection.

The system utilises analogue addressable detection with a range of multi-sensor detectors, such as a triple sensor detector incorporating photoelectric smoke, carbon monoxide and heat. This permits the selection of algorithms for appropriate detection combined with high nuisance alarm immunity, in order for the best detection mode for a situation to be easily chosen.

The MX DIGITAL™ communications protocol used on the addressable loops is designed to provide reliability and fault resistance, with operation possible over many cable types, permitting system upgrades using existing cables. The way in which the loop is configured means that communication can continue even if a loop open circuit fault occurs. Up to 128 short circuit isolator detector bases or modules can be fitted around the loop to limit the effect of a short circuit fault.

“Simplex’s MX TECHNOLOGY® provides a comprehensive scope of capabilities, with a key benefit of our systems being the technology’s ability to adapt when a site expands or building standards change,” said Dwayne Kuipers, National Manager Simplex Fire Products.

The VIGILANT® MX 1 is easy to operate and displays clear information including the zone and point numbers, type of alarms and text description of the alarm location. More extensive alarm information is available at a single key press. An internal log records the history of the previous 900 events, which can be quickly recalled to the LCD. A plain language printer output provides a 30 character text description of the event and a date/time stamp for rapid tracing of particular events.

The VIGILANT® MX 1 is also simple to program by using the Windows® based software, SmartConfig. The advanced structure allows an updated site-specific configuration to be downloaded while the system maintains full operation.
